I love tradition. I think this is adorable and good to know:

Traditional etiquette dictates that after you and your fiance have told both sets of parents, his parents should extend congratulations to yours – either with a handwritten note or a telephone call. If all the parents live close by and haven’t met before, his might invite yours over for cocktails or dinner, or your folks can invite his so that everyone can get acquainted. If your immediate families live in different cities, a telephone call or note will suffice for starters, but think about having everyone to your home for a weekend or arranging a relaxing rendezvous at a resort somewhere in the middle. That way, the wedding – when so much else is going on – won’t be the first time that your parents come face to face with one another. Plus, a get-together before the wedding provides the opportunity for everyone to celebrate your exciting news together.
